Sailicon Valley covers sailing startups, ocean tech, the blue economy, the social side of sailing and business, boat shows, entrepreneurs who sail ("from the C-Suite to the Sea-Suite"), ideas worth pondering, various legends, and Salty characters.

If it touches the water, is near the water, is about the water, or is just plain fascinating, then we want to know about it.

The overlap between the two worlds of sailing and Silicon Valley seemed obvious enough for this space to deserve its own outlet. That's why Sailicon Valley was launched.

This project was launched by a NorCal kid who grew up in Silicon Valley, and discovered that many sailors are just as adventurous in their "day jobs" as they are on the water. This is true beyond the Bay Area too: sailors and entrepreneurs alike usually have a story or two that's worth hearing. And so, the goal for Sailicon Valley is to share with you the best ideas and most interesting stories of the people "behind the helm."

You may notice that the topics we cover might wander, meander, zigzag, just like any memorable sailing adventure. So too do we expect to change course from time to time and chart new territory.

The idea for Sailicon Valley may have started in the SF Bay Area, but we'll look beyond the Bay and across the oceans to find the people and stories that vivify the spirit of sailing and the idea of Silicon Valley. Likewise, Silicon Valley and San Francisco are places that are in flux and transient, filled with people from somewhere else, who are comfortable with change and eager to create. The name "Silicon Valley" has become a metonym for any center of innovation, even outside of the Bay Area. And sailing, of course, is untethered and global.

Sailicon Valley is for adventurers and dreamers everywhere, inland or offshore, whether you're on Sand Hill Road or on the other side of the world.

Sailing, like Silicon Valley, is a state of mind, unbound by geography, only limited by infinite possibility.
